ABOUT

About

I have always recognised what a tonic music can be. I was keen to find a way to use it as a means of promoting wellbeing in others so I set up Starlit Memories to provide musical entertainment for the community. My selection of songs varies according to my audience but they generally include songs from the musicals, music hall, the twenties, wartime and the rock and roll era. They encourage reminiscence and a collective engagement in a group activity which is designed to lift the spirits and to get the audience to sing along. By starting Starlit Memories, I have come full circle back to my performing roots after spending some years teaching yoga therapeutically. I started out my working life backstage on West End musicals for a few years before I started my training at drama school studying musical theatre. This was followed by touring as an actress in children’s shows and many years of performing with bands. I pour every bit of those performing experiences into what I do. I am constantly reminded that you are never too old to have fun and a lady I encountered recently, who was 104, was a very good example of this. From the moment the music started she clapped her hands above her head, throughout, leaving me to marvel at her apparent boundless energy. Such is the power of music!
